In 1993, the Tamiya Mitsubishi Pajero Metaltop Wide (58132), the first Tamiya CC-01 based vehicle, came onto the market, which was then still called XC Chassis.
Over 25 years later, the time has finally come. The successor is already in the starting blocks, and with a brand new Lexan body, namely that of the current Mercedes Benz G500.
The chassis is a completely new development. Crawler fans will be pleased. While the predecessor, even with major modifications, was never technically a real scale crawler, the new CC-02 is a completely different story.
The new design with 4-link suspension and rigid axle is exactly what all fans have always wanted. According to Tamiya, 20 different gear ratios can be selected in order to be able to adapt the car perfectly to every track and every engine. This also eliminates a major problem with the CC-01. The car was simply a bit too fast for scale driving.
Like real vehicles, the new CC-02 is based on a ladder frame. This is the basis for excellent stability and torsional rigidity.
Like its predecessor, the CC-01, the new chassis also has permanent four-wheel drive. The three bevel gear differentials can be locked, as was the case with the CC-01, and thus ensure propulsion in almost any situation.
The engine transfers its power via the centrally located gearbox to the drive shafts with length compensation to the front and rear axles.
The damping is provided by the Tamiya CVA shock absorbers, already known and proven from many models.
A few more words about the bodywork:
As is usual with Tamiya, the Mercedes G500 was reproduced in Lexan, and to perfection. The add-on parts such as the radiator grille, side mirrors and spare wheel cover are separately molded in ABS plastic for the highest level of detail. The kit also includes chrome-plated light inserts for the LEDs that are also included. For the highest level of detail and a perfect look.
As already known from the CC-01, the CC-02 can also be built with different wheelbases. The new Mercedes G500 uses the long wheelbase with 267mm.
